What is Datalogging?

What is Data Logging and Why Do You Need It?

Understanding datalogging is important, especially when you’re pushing a lot of horsepower with your diesel truck. So, why is that important? Let me explain.

What is DataLogging?

Imagine your truck has a diary. Every time you drive, it writes down important details about how it’s running. This includes information like engine temperature, fuel consumption, and how much power it’s using. Data logging is the process of collecting all this information so you can see what’s happening inside your truck’s engine in real-time.

Why is Data Logging Important?

When you add big power modifications to your diesel truck, like a new turbocharger or fuel mods, you need a tune revision to get the maximum benefits of the mods you just added, datalogging helps you understand these changes and ensures everything is running smoothly. Think of it like a doctor checking your heartbeat and blood pressure—you want to make sure your engine stays healthy and performs at its best.

How Do I Data Log?

Here’s a step-by-step guide to data logging with your Autocal device:
  1. Start Your Truck: Begin by starting your truck and letting it warm up to its normal operating temperature. This is like making sure your body is ready before a workout.

  2. Plug in the Autocal: Connect the Autocal device to the OBDII port of your vehicle. This port is usually located under the dashboard.

  3. Access the Scan Tool Menu: On the Autocal, navigate to the Scan Tool menu. Select “Data Logging” and then “Record Data”. Follow the specific instructions provided by your technician.

  4. Drive and Collect Data: Take your truck for a drive as the Autocal records data. This is like your truck writing in its diary as you drive.

  5. Finish Data Logging: Once you're done, stop recording and safely remove the Autocal from the OBDII port.

  6. Transfer the Data to Your Computer: Connect the Autocal to your WINDOWS computer using a USB cable.

  7. Download EFI Live File Explorer: If you haven’t already, download and install the EFI Live file explorer

  8. Open the EFI Live File Explorer: Navigate to the Scan folder and drag and drop the recorded data logs to your desktop.

  9. Email the Data Logs: Reply to your technician’s email with the data logs attached, making sure to keep the email thread going.

Why Our Technicians Need Your Data Logs

Our technicians will use these data logs to see exactly how your truck is performing. They can make adjustments to ensure your engine runs efficiently and safely with the new power mods. It’s like having a personal trainer for your truck, making sure it stays in top shape.
And that’s it! Now you know what data logging is and why it’s essential for your diesel truck with big power mods. Happy logging! :)
