A mid-pipe is a section of the exhaust system that connects the headers or exhaust manifolds to the catalytic converter or resonator. It's typically located in the middle of the exhaust system, hence the name "mid-pipe." The purpose of the mid-pipe is to channel the exhaust gases from the engine to the catalytic converter or resonator, where they are further processed before being expelled out of the tailpipe.
The mid-pipe can play an important role in the performance and sound of a vehicle. Upgrading to an aftermarket mid-pipe with larger diameter tubing and less restrictive baffles can increase horsepower and torque, while also producing a more aggressive exhaust note. However, modifying the mid-pipe can also affect the emissions of a vehicle and may not be legal in some areas.
