The driver is a long distance from the transaxle, so every component in the system plays a critical role in smooth and predictable shifts.
We have tested several low-cost aftermarket shift lever arms, and they don't fit on the splined shifter shaft as precisely as the genuine Volkswagen article, so we do not stock them.* Sure, you can get a super-cheap reproduction for less than half of this one, but trust us when we say the extra cost of this VW part is money very well spent.
